The greatest tragedy of 9/11 second only to the human life lost is what we allowed it do to our country. The fear, the isolationism, the ignorance, the racism, the hate, the intolerance, it was always there, but after that day we allowed it to intensify, to take root in our politics, our society. We allowed it to define us.
