Representative Barney Frank and longtime partner, Jim Ready, were married Saturday by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick in front of guests including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senator John Kerry.

They had long discussions about marriage; Mr. Frank wanted to be married while still serving in Washington. Mr. Ready was worried about the public scrutiny. But he remembered how he felt in high school in Tewksbury, Mass., when Mr. Frank came out publicly.
“The kids that are going to see us, and feel strong enough to be able to come out and be who they are. That gives me more encouragement that I’m doing the right thing,” he said. (via NYT)

unpopular opinion?
I am so tired of hearing about these two. I’m sure they’re both wonderful people and will have a very happy marriage blah blah blah, but if I have to read one more headline or see another special documentary on their relationship or whatever I might just scratch my eyes out. I don’t understand people’s fascination with royalty that does nothing. The guy is second in line to the throne, a position that is mostly just a figure head, and probably wont be king any time soon. And sorry, but Kate Middleton is no Diana. With all that’s going on in the world, don’t we have better things to talk about then Kate’s dress or if she’s fit to be a royal or whatever the newest headline is? Not to upset any Brits out there because I’ve heard they’re quite protective of the royal family, but the British crown is so outdated and it’s probably because I’m American, but I really see no need for them in the modern world. This is probably just me, but April 29 can not get here fast enough. Maybe all this hoopla, yes hoopla, will die down after these two get hitched.
*Yes, I’m aware this may seem hypocritical as Americans, myself on occasion, follow celebrity couples, but the media coverage of their entire relationship has been ridiculously overdone and covered as much more than an entertainment piece as celebrity news is usually treated.
